How will we Embrace Equity in celebration of International Women's Day?

It’s International Women’s Day on 8th March. As a woman it feels like a very significant day for me.

Wanting to know more about the event and how I could play my part, I checked out their official website – there is loads of information and resources – check it out for yourself - this year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity

Now I know what equality is - who doesn’t, but I wasn’t so sure about equity…

What exactly does it mean and more importantly how can I embrace it?

I want to make a difference - to help create a gender equal world. I want to spread the word and raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity. But what exactly can I do?

I look back to times in my life when I may have been discriminated against for being a woman. I wonder if I could have done anything differently? Could I have pushed forward the agenda of gender equality? Is doing nothing better or worse than doing the wrong thing? If I knew then what I know now could I have handled the situation better?

And what about being positively discriminated against for being a woman?

Would the young man on the bus have offered to give up his seat for me if I had been male for example? I realise that it’s not about what happens to us but how we deal with it that can truly make a difference. Being armed with the knowledge and skills of how to best behave in these types of encounters is where the power lies.

Interaction are hosting a special Talent Forum event on Friday 10th of March from 10am – 12pm virtually on Zoom with an #EmbraceEquity theme in celebration of International Women’s Day.

It’s going to be a great opportunity for you to join us and learn more about IWD and what #EmbraceEquity means. Together we will share our own stories and discuss how we can all fully embrace equity in our daily lives and empower others to do the same.

All you need to do is register your interest to join the Talent Forum and we’ll share joining details for this special, interactive event with you. It’s free and tickets will be available through Eventbrite.

If you are an existing Talent Forum member you don’t need to re-register – we’ll share the joining details with you very soon!

I’ll leave you with the thought below …

‘Together we can work towards a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated’.
