Tools and methods

We're not interested in fads and phases - we are only interested in doing things well.

We'll start by understanding what the job is, then we'll select the tools and approaches to get it done.

Follow the links below to explore a cross-section of the methods we use to help people learn:

Problem solving exercises

Whether outdoors or indoors, problem solving exercises bring business issues to life when they are well designed and run with intelligent facilitation.

Using this approach, teams and individuals can experience and experiment in a learning environment, and work out how to apply the learning at work.

Issues of analysis, creativity, planning, management, communication, influence and more can be brought to life and explored.

Good design ensures the right issues are highlighted, but also that there is a line of sight between what is of course “not real” to the workplace and personal issues. Without this, people just will not buy into the learning. To get this right, we make sure we understand your business and the full context of the learning before we decide what to do, and how to position it in the programme.

We’ve designed problem solving exercises that last 5 mins, and 5 days. They’ve involved groups of 1 to 100 people. Including a financial element is something we are particularly good at. At desks, on the streets, at sea, in fields and mountains - we’ve never designed anything that involves flying … yet.

Given all of this, facilitators have to be challenging in order to find the true learning from these experiences and make sure it is put into the work context. People can easily be distracted by the more immediate and tangible aspects of the exercise, and we make sure the real purpose is never forgotten.
