Coaching
Experiential learning in support of a reflective process
There’s been a growth in demand for coaching over the past few years and we’ve found ourselves becoming more and more involved in coaching or coaching related work. In response to this, we’ve had a really good look at what we offer in terms of 1:1 coaching and also coaching skills training for line managers.
1:1 coaching
There are literally hundreds of organisations offering 1:1 coaching, so what makes what we do different? Well – it’s not so different from other consultancies, but we know the skills that we’ve developed to enable people to learn from practical experiences are invaluable in providing down to earth, practical 1:1 coaching for managers.
We’ve developed an approach to coaching, which ensures that all our coaches use a style and approach that focuses on achieving results. Where appropriate, they use exercises and approaches that support the coaching. This may involve role play with an actor, a personal challenge, or undertaking a practical task that helps the coachee look at a problem from a different perspective.
Coaching skills development for managers
Helping line managers develop coaching skills of their own is an important part of our work. We’ve identified the most important principles and techniques and developed a training programme that can be tailored to each organisation’s needs. At the core of the programme is a highly practical workshop that gives them an overview of the skills involved and the different approaches and then lots of opportunity to practise coaching and getting feedback.
We believe that coaching is a skill that develops over time, so the workshop is supported by 1:1 coaching for the managers to enable them to successfully transfer what they learn on the programme into work.
This has an added benefit; We’ve found that managers who’ve had coaching themselves typically make better coaches.
